Fine Art Photograph of Lightning Torch at Empire Mountain Arizona Looking across I-10 east of Vail one of the largest single bolts I have ever photographed dropped down right in the middle of my frame. Moments before this I said aloud "God, give me one good bolt and I'll go home." I closed my camera and went home. 1988 © Jeff Smith
Fine Art Photograph of Lightning Million Volt Curtain Arizona The Rincon mountains, east of Tucson, are notorious for its fierce storms. This particular evening storm had the greatest amount of lightning I have ever seen. 1997 © Jeff Smith
Fine Art Photograph of Lightning Beyond Organ Pipe Arizona Shot from the Tohono Odam Reservation looking west toward Organ Pipe National Monument. The spectacular orange sunset comes from volcanic ash trapped in the stratosphere from the Mount Pinatubo Volcano. 1990 © Jeff Smith
Fine Art Photograph of Lightning Sea Of Cortez Mexico I set my camera up in anticipation of a storm I saw in Puerto Penasco, Sonora. It was exciting to see the lightning dance exactly across my camera's frame. The flashing lightning froze the small waves of water in time. 1998 © Jeff Smith
Fine Art Photograph of Lightning Swan Song Arizona I was north of Tucson in Oro Valley for this storm. I headed towards Catalina State Park, set up my cameras and photographed this giant bolt. The separation between cloud and bolt is almost three-dimensional. This is my favorite image in the last couple years. 2006 © Jeff Smith
Fine Art Photograph of Lightning Picacho Illumination Arizona Picacho Peak, located 40 miles north of Tucson in route to Phoenix via Interstate 10. This Civil War landmark is known for it's beautiful, rugged terrain. This powerful Monsoon storm ripped down I-10 in a fury of light and dust. I positioned my truck and captured this image with a long lens. 1988 © Jeff Smith
Fine Art Photograph of Lightning Into The Storm Tucson, Arizona This lightning photograph, shot from inside of my truck, was on the far east side of Tucson on a lonely desert utility road. 1992 © Jeff Smith
Fine Art Photograph of Lightning Cross Arizona This wooden, weathered cross was over 7 feet tall, and was photographed in the Tohono O'odham Nation. The wide-angle lens view of an approaching storm is one of my favorites. 1991 © Jeff Smith
Fine Art Photograph of Lightning Close Call in Sells Arizona While out in the Tohono O'odham Nation, AT Willett and I experienced one of the closest bolts that either of us had photographed. We both captured from different perspectives at the same time. 1990 © Jeff Smith
Fine Art Photograph of Lightning Window Seat New Mexico Flying into Albuquerque, NM at sunset, I saw lightning in the distance towards the Santa Fe area. I pushed my camera up against the window opened the shutter momentarily and captured this image. 1988 © Jeff Smith
